Health and care leaders working with Rock FM to support young people's mental health

12th August 2022

Health and care leaders in Lancashire and South Cumbria are working with local radio station Rock FM to encourage young people to speak out if they're struggling with their mental health.

Radio adverts are being played throughout the summer to encourage young people to speak to their friends or seek help from the Healthy Young Minds website if they're feeling down or struggling with things like anxiety or exam results stress.

Helen Rimmer, children and young people's mental health lead for NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board, said: "We're delighted to be working with Rock FM. We know they have thousands of young listeners, and we hope these messages can reach those who may be having a hard time with their mental health.

"It's been a tough few years for everyone, young people included. We want them to start to prioritise their mental health and wellbeing, and we want to normalise speaking about mental health struggles.

"We know it’s not always easy for people to reach out and ask for help, but the sooner people do, the sooner they can start to feel better."

For help and support for things like anxiety, depression, stress and bullying visit the Healthy Young Mind's advice for young people page. There is also a dedicated space for parents and carers.
